For over 500 years, Turton Tower has witnessed the changing lives of the people who lived and worked here. Today, its rooms and grounds offer a fascinating setting for schools and groups to step into the past and discover their stories.
School Visits
All our sessions are led by costumed interpreters who bring history to life through hands-on activities, objects and storytelling.
Meet the Tudors (full day): Step inside the Orrell family’s Tudor home to find out how rich and poor ate, slept and even went to the toilet. Explore how the house was built and round off the day with a Tudor dance.
Visit the Victorians (full day): Meet the Kay family’s household staff to find out what life at the Tower was really like, then get hands-on with Victorian objects, toys and games.
Victorian Christmas (half day, selected dates in December): Travel back in time to discover how many of our favourite Christmas traditions became popular in Victorian times. Play parlour games, make festive crafts to take home and meet our Victorian Father Christmas.
Every class is different, so we’re happy to explore how visits can be adapted to suit your pupils’ ages, interests and learning needs.
