The Friends of Turton Tower is a voluntary organisation with 300 members.
The Friends organise many events each year for all ages and interests. Some are held within the tower or the gardens while others are trips to places of interest. We also have working groups dealing with particular aspects of the tower; such as the gardens and volunteering in the tower. If you wish to join us or merely find out more about the tower and the friends follow the information below. You can be assured of a warm welcome from a concerned group of volunteers doing something worthwhile in the community.
Our role is to support the tower and the work of the professional staff employed by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. The tower was gifted, under a trust, to the then Turton Urban District Council in 1931 by Lady Nina Knowles for the use of the public at the discretion of the council. The natural successors under local government change were the North Turton Parish Council. Unfortunately, as a small area body, they did not have the funding to sustain the trust and so, after a period under management by Lancashire County Council, in May 2009 Blackburn with Darwen took over responsibility.
The Friends look forward to the continued development of our group and supporting Turton Tower.
